Cleveland Central Catholic High School (CCC) has a rich history that reflects a long tradition of Catholic education in Cleveland. The origins of CCC trace back to 1881, when two of its founding schools, St. Stanislaus and St. Michael the Archangel, were established. These schools, along with Our Lady of Lourdes and St. John Cantius, were instrumental in educating the local Catholic community.
Over the years, each of the four founding schools built a legacy of academic and spiritual development. In 1968, in response to changing demographics and educational needs, the four schools came together to form Cleveland Central Catholic High School. This merger consolidated their resources and extended their mission of providing quality education while preserving their Catholic heritage.
Cleveland Central Catholic High School (CCC) began its first year of operation for the 1969-1970 school year with over 1,600 students. In the early years, the school continued to operate on the campuses of the four founding schools. Over time, as enrollment decreased, three of the campuses were closed – Our Lady of Lourdes, 1976; Saint John Cantius, 1988; The consolidation of the Scranton Campus (St. Michael’s) and the Forman Campus (St. Stanislaus) took place in 2003, completing the transition into a one-campus school located at 6550 Baxter Avenue which was the original St. Stanislaus School in the Slavic Village neighborhood on the southeast side of Cleveland.
In 2006, in cooperation with the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, Central Catholic successfully completed a $13 million capital campaign adding over 25,000 square feet of new construction. The new space includes new classrooms and labs, administrative offices, a large meeting room, a chapel, and an auxiliary gymnasium. The campaign also increased the school’s endowment fund, to provide academic scholarships and tuition assistance for those with demonstrated financial need. Over a six-year period, enrollment climbed over 40 percent.
Another major capital addition to the campus was accomplished through a partnership with the City of Cleveland, the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and the Third Federal Foundation. A new football and track stadium, named after long-time neighborhood activist and supporter, Ben Stefanski, II, was dedicated in September of 2010.
The latest improvement to our campus facilities is the construction of a new entrance and other renovations and improvements to the St. Stanislaus Social Center which houses the varsity gymnasium, school cafeteria, athletic director's office and classrooms. The new entrance will create a larger more welcoming lobby and include an elevator serving all three floors of the building. The new entrance project is expected to be completed in December of 2024.
Today, with an enrollment of 450 students, CCC continues to serve the community by upholding the values and traditions established by its founding schools, fostering both academic excellence and spiritual growth.
